According to the Wall Street Journal, uber-tech giant Apple and flailing dot-com boom relic Yahoo are in talks to increase their current level of partnership in an effort to gain independence from joint rival Google.
Apple and Yahoo already have ties in place: Apple has used Yahoo Finance and Weather data, as well as Sports data (through Siri), on iPhone and iPad. Apple have publicly cut ties with Google over maps and video content, while Yahoo is closely affiliated with (Apple's old enemy) Microsoft with Bing search results.
While there are always snags with potential deals between large companies - particularly in the tech market -Yahoo is (reportedly) viewed as a potential partner as they are not an Apple rival. Yahoo has no app store, no mobile devices, no web browser, and new CEO Marissa Mayer (ex-Google) is looking to make waves and reignite the ageing giant.
Whilst the WSJ article may be purely speculation, the thought of two generations of tech innovation coming together is quite a feel-good story. Even if they both loathe Google.
