Tumblr's first designer resigns 11 days after Yahoo! buy-out

Tumblr's creative director and first-ever designer Jacob Bijani has announced his resignation less than two weeks after Yahoo's $1.1bn takeover.

Bijani was among the very first staff at the company in 2008, aptly revealing his departure on his personal Tumblr page.

Five years ago I joined a team of four as Tumblr’s first designer, creative director, and product engineer. That team has since grown to 182 of the most wonderful and talented people around.

I’m so proud of what we’ve all created together, and it’s been a privilege to contribute to something beloved by so many. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the product; I’m sure it will be nothing short of incredible.

Whilst Bijani's interest in the purchase of Tumblr has not been identified, TIME magazine reported that $66m will be allocated to Tumblr's 178 employees.  AdWeek also speculated the reasons behind his resignation suggesting he's philosophy differs from Marissa Mayer's.

"...interestingly, the day after it was revealed that the platform plans to debut new ads (sponsored posts) next month."

Whether more staff follow out the door is yet to be seen, though the introduction of adverts to Tumblr is causing consternation amongst users.
